Defense contractor Raytheon is moving 250 jobs to Indianapolis from facilities in California and Virginia.

Officials told workers in Chula Vista, Calif., and Norfolk, Va., last week that work at the depots would be consolidated to Indianapolis, according to Mike Doble, a Raytheon spokesman.

“We will maintain a smaller operation at those locations, close to our customers,” Doble said. “The move allows us to improve our efficiency and competitiveness for our customers.”

The company, on the city’s Eastside, is expected Monday to announce details of the move, which could take up to a year. In 2013, Raytheon had about 1,000 employees in Indianapolis.
