15 on tap for Indy's beverage scene in 2015

The craft beer craze isn't slowing down, at least not in 2015. Several breweries are in the works, three are expanding, and two bars with a lengthy line of taps are opening — and those are just the ones that made this list.

Besides breweries, Indy will also gain a distillery and wine bar.

Not listed, but on my radar? Tappers Arcade Bar met their fundraising goal during their IndieGoGo campaign. I'll be following Jeff Moulton and Austin Howard as they search for a space to open their retro arcade bar near Downtown.

I'll also keep an eye on alcohol legislation. The Hoosiers for Sunday Sales coalition kicked off a campaign Dec. 1 in an effort to legalize Sunday sales. However, the liquor store lobby continues to fight it, arguing that Sunday sales would drive the smaller, locally owned stores out of business.

Bottom line: I'm going to be a busy beverage reporter next year. Follow along. Here's 15 on tap for 2015:

1. Step back in time with 12.05 Distillery

Named after the date prohibition was repealed, 12.05 Distillery (Twelve Oh Five) in Fletcher Place shipped their first batch of 100 percent Indiana corn vodka on Dec. 5. In March, they plan to open Repeal Restaurant for small plates paired with cocktails made from distillery spirits. 12.05 Distillery is 100 percent woman-owned.

2. Take a break on the Monon

Eddie Sahm of Sahm's Place and Scott Ellis, former head brewer at The Ram, are partnering to open Big Lug Canteen. The brew pub will have a food menu featuring poutine, hoagie sandwiches and salads. Craft brews include an American Wheat, an English Brown and an American Pale Ale, as well as three to five rotating seasonals. The outdoor beer garden will have a limited menu and serve people on the Monon. Look for it mid-spring.

3. Get more beer from Black Acre

Black Acre Brewing plans to have their first production facility running at 5543 Bonna Ave. in the Irvington area in January. The 15-barrel system will greatly increase beer production, and allow the brewery to keg and distribute beer to other local restaurants. A future goal for Black Acre is to expand the current brewpub on Washington Street. As of now, it will remain the same, and continue to house its smaller brewing operation.

4. Sip on suds from Brew Link Supply Shop

The Brew Link home brewing retail store in Indianapolis' Fountain Square is working towards opening its brewery in Plainfield. Co-owner Adam Burk said they are expecting delivery of their brewing equipment by the end of January, with production starting in February. Initially, the space will serve as a production facility, and the company will self-distribute kegs. The company plans to get zoning and approvals for a tap room in the future.

5. Try a new spot in Speedway

Construction is underway for Daredevil Brewing, who is moving all of its production operations from Shelbyville to a 10,000-square-foot space in Speedway. The new digs will include an indoor tasting room with a food menu and a larger outdoor beer garden. They plan to open in the spring, before the month of May festivities begin.

6. Drink craft beer at the movie theater

Coming in the spring, Flix Brewhouse is bringing its cinema, restaurant and brewery combination to Carmel. This will be the Texas-based company's third location. Six core beers and several seasonal selections will be brewed on site, visible to the public, plus 30 to 40 guest beers. A full menu will include your cinema favorite, popcorn, and pizza, salads, burgers and sandwiches. Pull-out tables, order selection cards and server alert buttons allow patrons to order directly from their seats, without interrupting the movie. Cost for movies are not yet set, but are comparable to a standard theater, Director of Marketing Greg Johnson said. Beer prices range from $4 to $5 a pint, or $5 to $10 for guest brews. Food ranges from $6 to $13.

7. Dive into something different

Louie's Wine Dive and Mass Ave. Kitchen will open in early 2015. It won't be the dive's first location, but Corey Gonzalez, management, said they have local ownership and will utilize local vendors. It's called a dive because of the relaxed atmosphere. Gonzalez said that they try to make wine approachable, not pretentious or snooty. Drink selections will include over 100 wines, local brews, and cocktails. The food menu will offer made-from-scratch entrees, salads and sandwiches. A popular appetizer is the Lobster Poutine — lobster sits on fries topped with seafood gravy.

8. Get a taste of Bloomington near Mass Ave.

The Bloomington-based restaurant and craft beer bar is opening its second location in the Pulliam Square development. The main area will have 50 guest taps, 500 bottled beer selections and 20 taps reserved for beers brewed by The Tap. Those beers will also be available in a more private brewpub attached to the space. Food will include burgers, sandwiches, pizza and tacos. Anticipated to open in the summer.

9. Bask in the sun in Fishers

Sun King's $10 million expansion in Fishers is still on track for 2015. They are projected to break ground in the spring. Beth Belange, Sun King promotions, said they hope to open their doors with an Oktoberfest party. The 40,000-square-foot facility will have the capacity to produce 90,000 barrels of beer annually, an indoor tap room and an outdoor beer garden.

10. Belly up to a downtown bar with 100+ taps

Yard House will become Central Indiana's third bar with more than 100 beers on tap, following HopCat in Broad Ripple and The Pint Room in Carmel. The California-based restaurant also has a large menu with burgers, steaks, and vegetarian dishes made from Gardein. Coming this spring.
