Purdue has its Mr. Basketball after all.

Caleb Swanigan, the 2015 IndyStar Indiana Mr. Basketball, committed to the Boilermakers on Tuesday morning, guardian Roosevelt Barnes said.

Swanigan, ranked as a top-20 national prospect in his class, had originally committed to Michigan State in April. Barnes said the decision a second time around wasn't that difficult for the 6-9 Homestead star.

"Caleb wants to bring a national championship to Purdue," Barnes said. "He won Mr. Basketball in Indiana and won a state championship. He wants to do the same thing for his college team at Purdue. Matt Painter is a great coach."

Swanigan later tweeted '#Boilerup" on his account. He'll be the first Mr. Basketball to play at Purdue since Gary Roosevelt's Glenn Robinson in 1991.

Barnes said there were several schools involved with Swanigan a second time around, including Cal. The Bears, coached by former Purdue standout Cuonzo Martin, were said to have the inside track on Swanigan at different points in Swanigan's recruitment. But Barnes said the decision to pick Purdue really wasn't that difficult.

"It really wasn't that tough," Barnes said. "I think sometimes the way social media is now that you might get pressured into making a quick decision. Just because you're 18 it doesn't mean you can always make wise decisions on your own. Kids would benefit from their parents getting more involved. This was actually around the time I thought he would commit."

At Purdue, Swanigan will add to a formidable frontline that already includes 7-foot senior A.J. Hammons and 7-2 sophomore Isaac Haas. Swanigan averaged 22.6 points and 13.7 rebounds as a senior at Homestead and was named as a McDonald All-American and Gatorade Player of the Year in Indiana. He set career (1,649 points) and season (704) records for scoring at Homstead, along with career rebounds (1,048) and season (424).

Purdue has signed guards Ryan Cline (Carmel) and Grant Weatherford (Hamilton Heights) in the 2015 class.

"Purdue had everything he wanted," Barnes said.
