Just days after celebrating its six-year anniversary, Sun King Brewery opened a new tap room in Fishers.

Clay Robinson, a co-owner of Sun King Brewery, stands behind the bar at the new Sun King tap room in Fishers.

The 6,000-square-foot, industrial-style gathering space and small-batch brewing facility serves the Northside community while plans continue for a larger destination brewery a half-mile away. Sun King is of one of the state's largest microbrewers.

The tap room, 7848 E. 96th St., allows guests to sample beer, drink a pint, get growlers filled or buy cans for carry-out. The $6 Growler Fill Fridays, made popular by the Downtown location, will extend to Fishers.

Visitors also might get to be the guinea pigs for tasting new brews. Co-owner Clay Robinson called it a "research and development" facility. "We will test new products here on a smaller scale," he said. "If they are successful, we can take them Downtown and brew bigger batches."

Food will be made available by preferred vendors including Sahm's Bar and Grill, which is in the same strip center.

Unlike the brewery's Downtown location, this tap room allows children. The brewery isn't allowing dogs at this time but hopes to create an outdoor space in the future.

The regular hours for Sun King Fishers will be 11 a.m to 9 p.m. Monday to Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. No carry out on Sunday until the small-batch facility is fully functioning. Equipment should arrive in the next couple weeks.
