Even if you're Larry Bird, it doesn't mean your house will sell

No surprise here: A basketball goal adorns the driveway of Larry Bird's Naples, Fla., home.

Any multi-million dollar waterfront home is going to come with plenty of perks.

A multi-million dollar home that belongs to the legendary Larry Bird?

That house comes with a basketball goal in the driveway, of course.

And it's for sale. But after more than a year on the market, it's now on sale for a little less.

Bird, president of the Indiana Pacers, originally sought $4.8 million for his 6,000-square-foot Naples, Fla., home.

This week, the four-bedroom, six-bathroom house — which originally was put up for sale in September 2013 — was re-priced, albeit with a relatively small $200,000 cut.

Bird decided to sell the home in 2013 after he realized his Pacers' front-office duties wouldn't give him much time in Florida, according to Zillow, an online real estate database company.

"That leaves much less time for Bird and his wife, Dinah, to hang out in their custom home in the Gulf Coast enclave of Naples," the company said on its website.

When Bird signed the deal to run the Pacers in July of 2013, he told his agent that his schedule would limit trips to Florida.

"Signing a multiyear contract, it's apparent his ability to keep a large home in Naples is limited," Bird's agent, Jill Leone, told the News-Press in Fort Myers. "They love the area. Everybody loves the area. I'm sure there will be a time when he can spend more time there, but right now physically he's required to be in the Pacers arena. When you're an executive running a team, you don't get much time off. It's a very active, 365-day job."

Bird first bought a home in Naples in 1993, but sold that property in 1998. He then bought his current Florida property, had the existing home on the site razed, and custom built a new residence.

Along with a view of Venetian Bay and a dock, Bird's home boasts a gourmet kitchen, state-of-the-art home theater with seating for 10, an infinity pool and four-car garage. There's also a tiki hut, hot tub, massive aquarium and an 8-pillar foyer.
