Prosecutors cite 'Grand Theft Auto' ties to baby Delano Wilson case

Willie Wilson (left) is escorted back to jail Feb. 5, 2015, after his initial hearing at the City-County Building. He is charged with murder in the death of his missing infant son, Delano Wilson.

Prosecutors accuse Willie Wilson of murdering his 6-week-old son, and although there is no body, they believe they have plenty of evidence to convict.

"As far as trying a case without a body, that's been done a number of times in this state," said Denise Robinson, the lead prosecutor in the case, after Wilson's initial hearing Thursday afternoon in Marion Superior Court. "You have to present circumstantial evidence of death, but as indicated in the probable cause, we have ample proof."

Among the examples of circumstantial evidence provided in the probable cause affidavit was one peculiarity. The sketches of the two people who Wilson said had kidnapped the baby looked familiar to one of the investigators, Robinson said. The pair looked like characters from the video game "Grand Theft Auto."

Robinson said investigators downloaded photos of two characters from the video game, "and if you put their photographs next to the sketch they appear to be identical," she said.

Video game boxes were found in Wilson's home, the probable cause affidavit said, though the titles were unidentified.

Wilson, who faces a charge of murder, was arrested Wednesday. Baby Delano Wilson was reported missing Aug. 27, 2014. Robinson said the reason it took so long to charge Wilson was because the prosecution wanted to follow every avenue in the investigation to make sure they weren't charging an innocent person.

"We also wanted to make sure that we investigated all angles," Robinson said.

In addition to the "Grand Theft Auto" connection, investigators collected a number of other pieces of evidence, including blood samples in the home's bathroom and a document on Wilson's phone downloaded two hours before his call to 911 to report the kidnapping. The document was titled "Infant Abduction Statistics."

He is being held in the Marion County Jail on no bond. Wilson's trial has been set for April 13.

A no-contact order for Wilson has been put into place, which includes witnesses and Wilson's girlfriend's mother and brother.
