Confederate flags continued to stir strong feelings at the Brickyard 400.

1. Our columnists saw the Confederate flag at the Brickyard 400. They asked why.

Gregg Doyel saw it flying in the parking lot, all by itself. "Glory Days" played as he approached. But the man wouldn't talk. Not without his lawyer.

As a Mississippi boy, Doyel is no stranger to that flag. He cheered it, before he knew what it meant some people. It's complicated.

Suzette Hackney saw the flag piled on a table of merchandise before she even stepped through the gates of IMS for her first-ever Brickyard 400. She has a history with that flag, too. For people like her, for black people, it's been a symbol of oppression. Exclusion. It made her feel unwelcome.

2. Larry Bird is pretty sure Michael Jordan would stomp him in a one-on-one match.

"I’m 40 pounds more than I was when I played, I’m broken down. I really don’t care like I used to. I have a fight in me, but it’s not the fight I once had," the basketball legend said on the Dan Patrick Show. He did concede that it'd be a pretty close game, however.

Do you think he's right?

In other Larry Bird-related news today, Roy Hibbert expressed admiration for him as he starts his new gig in L.A. "Larry was very up front with me. He said before the press conference that I can't promise you minutes next year, and they wanted to go in a different direction," Hibbert said. "I could never say a bad thing about Larry or the Pacers' organization."

Good luck, Roy.

3. Former Colts quarterback Jack Trudeau was arrested on suspicion of OWI and intimidation.

The ex-quarterback was pulled over in Zionsville, where he allegedly threatened to kill the officer in a profanity-filled tirade. This is Trudeau's second arrest for suspicion of drunk driving; he pleaded guilty in 1990, and in 2004 pleaded guilty to supplying alcohol to minors.

Meanwhile, the Colts' current quarterback opens up on what food he hates — but tries to eat anyway.

4. Former Indiana first lady Susan Bayh is recovering from surgery to remove a brain tumor.

The wife of former governor and U.S. Senator Evan Bayh had a benign brain tumor removed on Monday. Her prognosis going forward is positive. She was alerted to the tumor after two and a half weeks of migraine headaches.

5. Less than four months after being shot, a Butler tennis recruit is a state champion.

Mason Dragos was sitting in a pizza parlor when a handgun sitting on the counter accidentally went off. The bullet went through his dominant tennis hand and then into his chest, just one centimeter away from his heart. He still doesn't have full feeling in all his fingers, but he still battled his way back to dominate at the state tournament.

Next year, he'll be playing for Butler.
