A fight broke out during a boys basketball game at an Indianapolis charter school Tuesday night, resulting in injuries to a child and an arrest.

Indianapolis Metro police responded to the 3600 block of German Church Road on a report of a fight involving a large group of people around 7:45 p.m., police said.

The trouble started at the end of a basketball game between Andrew J. Brown Academy and the Indianapolis Lighthouse Charter School, police said. During team handshakes, one of the Lighthouse players attacked a player on the Andrew J. Brown Academy team, which sparked a fight.

Police were called when parents started getting involved, and the fight grew to between 30 to 50 people. The kids involved in the fight were between the ages of 13-14, police said.

One juvenile was arrested on a preliminary charge of battery, while another student sustained multiple cuts to the face. The injured child was released to his parents after being checked by medics.

There was also mention of a person with a gun in the school, but police did not confirm whether a weapon had been recovered.

IMPD Officer Rafael Diaz said police are continuing to look into those reports.

A call to Brown Academy officials was not immediately returned.
