A fight on the Near Westside led to the fatal shooting of a man Saturday afternoon, police said.

Indianapolis police responded to a call at about 1 p.m. about a shooting in the 700 block of Lynn Street.

When officers arrived, they found Derrick Myers, 39, inside his car and shot multiple times in his upper torso, according to a news release from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Myers was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical workers, said Lt. Richard Riddle, a spokesman for IMPD.

Witnesses told police that there was an altercation between Myers and two other men. Gunshots were heard and four shell casings were found at the scene.

Police investigators do not believe the shooting was a random act, according to a news release. The two men, who are considered persons of interest in the case, fled south in an SUV, police said.

Homicide detectives and forensic specialists were at the scene Saturday afternoon, and the shooting is still under investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-TIPS (8477) or text “INDYCS” — plus the tip information — to 274637 (CRIMES).
