LOOGOOTEE, Ind. – A southwestern Indiana school superintendent has voluntarily cut her salary for the next two school years.

Loogootee Community School Corp. Superintendent Joan Keller is reducing her salary from $97,000 to about $77,000 for the upcoming school year and to $73,000 for the 2016-17 school year.

Keller tells WRTV the district has been struggling with declining enrollment and a new state funding formula. She also says it’s her way of helping the corporation’s students.

Keller also is reducing her paid vacation days from 20 to 15.

Keller says the salary she’s giving up will be part of the cost of having a social worker to work with students.

Loogootee is about 60 miles northeast of Evansville.
