Severe injuries reported in IndyGo crash on Eastside

Four people were injured Monday afternoon in an Eastside wreck involving an IndyGo bus and an SUV.

The crash was reported around 3 p.m. in the 5500 block of East 34th Street, police said.

According to Indianapolis Fire Department officials, a Chevy SUV and an IndyGo bus smashed into one another, injuring four people, three of which were trapped and required extraction by firefighters.

Both victims inside the SUV, a 26-year-old woman and 16-year-old minor, were transported to local hospitals in critical condition. Of the two patients rescued from the IndyGo bus, one was transported to IU Methodist Hospital in serious condition, and the other to Eskenazi Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

All victims were freed from the vehicles and on their way to local hospitals within 30 minutes of the wreck, IFD officials said.

No other injuries were reported, and the circumstances leading up to the crash are still under investigation.
