It's Dr. Dre's world; we're just living in it. The rap/hip-hop icon turned 50 this month, a landmark age that the Jazz Kitchen has deemed worthy of celebrating. Music will be provided by DJ Metrognome and DJ Top Speed.

'Annie'

The long-running comic strip about a young orphan adopted by a wealthy man during the Great Depression has already been adapted into movies twice. Now see the musical in its original medium.

Maroon 5

After a two-year hiatus, Maroon 5 — still fronted by "The Voice" judge Adam Levine — returned to the top of the charts in 2014 with its album "V," selling 164,000 copies in its first week and spawning multiple radio hits. Magic! and Rozzi Crane open.

'The Giver'

Lois Lowry's classic story of a world where conformity is the basis of civilization is brought to life on the stage. Unlike last year's failed movie adaptation, protagonist Jonas is properly portrayed as a 12-year-old.

'Giselle'

Local dance company No Exit will put its own spin on the story of a young girl brought back from the dead by a group of women looking to punish her beloved. Sun King Brewery will sponsor a meet-and-greet with the artists Saturday.

Kate Voegele

High Life at the Hi-Fi

Celebrating highlife and other musical styles from around the world, Indianapolis band Sweet Poison Victim and DJ Kyle Long will present the first installment of a monthly event at the Hi-Fi. Originally stemming from Ghana, highlife combines traditional West African sounds with elements of jazz for a full-on dance-inducing explosion.

To celebrate, a diverse lineup of bands and DJs will take over the Melody Inn.
