Friday story: SWAT called to Westside home

An Indianapolis SWAT team surrounded a Westside home Friday afternoon after a man was seen riding a lawnmower and waving a rifle.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that officers were called to a home in the 6400 block of West Morris Street around 3:30 p.m.

IMPD Officer Rafael Diaz said the man on the lawnmower, believed to be in his 40s, was pointing the rifle at a neighbor who contacted the police.

Officers rushed to the scene, and on arrival, the man pointed the rifle at the police before going inside the home and refusing to come out.

Diaz said investigators believe the man is the only person inside the house. As of 10:30 p.m., Diaz said the incident was still ongoing.

There have been no reports of injuries or shots being fired.
