Excise police cite 176 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway
Indiana State Excise Police issued 141 citations for illegal possession or consumption of an alcoholic beverage at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend, according to a news release.
In all, excise police arrested or cited 176 people — 141 minors, 28 adults and seven juveniles — from Friday through Sunday, the news release said.
Excise officers also charged some with possession of false identification, resisting law enforcement, furnishing alcoholic beverages to a minor, sale of alcoholic beverages without a permit and drug-related charges.
But arrests were down from last year's Indianapolis 500, the news release said, when excise officers arrested 211 people on a total of 250 charges.
In addition, Speedway police reported seven arrests Sunday in and around IMS.
Police reported three arrests for public intoxication and one for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Other arrests involved charges of battery and pointing a firearm, in addition to an arrest on a warrant for a previous infraction.
Sunday's arrests by Speedway police were tallied shortly after the end of the race, around 4:30 p.m. Speedway police also reported two arrests overnight Saturday into race day morning and five arrests Friday on Carb Day.
