New business and retail projects planned for Carmel's Midtown area were announced Monday, marking the start of a $16 million, four-story building that will occupy space near the city's Arts & Design District.

Located a few blocks south of Main Street, the Edison Business Lounge and Vintage Coffee/Wine Bar will be the first additions in a redevelopment project that's slated to cost $150 million, according to a release issued by the city of Carmel.

The Edison will offer 20,000 square feet of up to 50 private offices and another 50 desk spaces on the second floor of what is currently referred to as Building One, the release said. Vintage Coffee/Wine Bar will be attached to the building on the main level.

"This is not just for the high-tech entrepreneurs," said Justin Moffett, a partner at Old Town Development, the primary developer of the Midtown project. "(It's) for anyone seeking a way to grow their business by connecting with others and developing new relationships simply by being in the same workspace on a consistent basis."

To use the Edison Business Lounge, you'll have to become a member, unless you want to rent a conference room for meetings, the release said. Office space, desk space, small meeting rooms and other on-site business services such as office equipment and high-speed Internet service will be offered for a fee. But the coffee and wine bar will be open to the public, serving breakfast, lunch and cocktails in the afternoon.

Spearheading the project is the concept's founder, William Waldren and Carmel resident Randy Jaunzemis.
