Two teenage girls found fatally shot in car

Two teenage girls were found fatally shot in a car on the Westside late Sunday night, police said.

Two men flagged down police officers in the 2000 block of Berwick Avenue around 11:30 p.m., where two teenagers were sitting in a gray vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police press release.

Coriana Johnson, 17, and Makayla Mitchell, 18, were pronounced dead at the scene, IMPD said,

Detectives are questioning the men who flagged down police, the release said.

The two teens were killed five blocks from the scene of the city's 100th slaying on Wednesday. The area is east of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The deaths mark the second and third fatal shootings on Sunday, after a teenager was killed on the Eastside in the afternoon.

Steven Kendall, 17, was was found dead a vacant lot next to a convenience store.

The three Sunday shooting deaths, if all ruled to be criminal homicides, bring the city's murder count to 105, after killings surpassed the 100 mark last week.
