Schmidt Peterson MotorsportÕs James Hinchcliffe (5) talks to his crew before practice for the Angie's List Grand Prix of Indianapolis Thursday, May 7, afternoon at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

You can't keep James Hinchcliffe down, not even with a vicious and damaging practice crash.

The IndyCar driver who was injured Monday in an Indianapolis 500 practice crash was up and about Friday, proving it with an Instagram post.

I'll be knocking out 5ks in no time! Long recovery ahead but lucky to be surrounded by the best friends, family, colleagues, medical staff and safety workers on Earth. Wouldn't be here without you all. Thanks for the support guys!

A suspension piece pierced his upper left thigh in the crash, and he lost a lot of blood before surgery at IU Health Methodist Hospital. He will miss some time in the IndyCar Series but it expected to fully recover. Ryan Briscoe is replacing him in Sunday's race.
