Chuck Pagano plans to coach Colts 'for years to come'

Indianapolis Colts coach Chuck Pagano is entering the final season of his original four-year deal and reportedly won't be extended before this fall.

But Pagano doesn't appear the least bit concerned.

He released a statement Friday evening suggesting he doesn't plan on going anywhere anytime soon.

The full statement:

"Be where your feet are," Pagano wrote. "What do I mean? Cancer taught me to be thankful for today. All I'm concentrating on is today. Then tomorrow. My focus right now is on the draft, bringing in players that can help us continue to grow, get better, and continue to 'Build the Monster.' I look forward to coaching the Colts this season and for many years to come."

According to an NFL.com report on Thursday, the Colts have no plans to extend Pagano before next season, which would make him a lame-duck coach in 2015. But after three straight 11-5 finishes and a trip to the AFC Championship Game last season, a parting of ways doesn't appear likely unless 2015 falls well short of expectations.

Owner Jim Irsay has expressed a desire to see defensive improvement after the outcome of the championship game against the Patriots, but he has generally been effusive in his praise of Pagano.
