A Greenwood man discovered Sunday night that 21 guns with an estimated value of $30,000 had disappeared from his home, according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The man noticed that a box with a recently purchased gun was not in his kitchen but thought he might have moved it, the sheriff’s office said. As he was looking for it, he noticed his bedside Glock was missing, in addition to several long guns and pistols from a locked gun cabinet in his office.

The man also noticed guns missing from bags under his desk and from his basement gun safe, which he told the sheriff’s office he leaves unlocked at all times, the news release said.

Several firearms were not taken from the residence, the man said, and no other valuables appeared to have been taken.

The man told deputies that although he had the only key to his gun cabinet, some people knew where his gun safe was. He also said that a damaged door to his garage didn’t secure properly, and that recent problems with his house alarm going off had led him to disconnect it.
