A woman has died after being struck by a vehicle in Fishers.

The incident was reported shortly after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 15000 block of Charbono Street, police confirmed.

Police said they discovered the victim, 72-year-old Melody S. Anderson, trapped underneath a Toyota Prius. Initial investigation has revealed that 68-year-old Susan J. Leonard was the driver of the vehicle.

Rescue crews attempted to lift the car off Anderson, but when paramedics arrived a short time later, the elderly woman was pronounced dead.

"The crash remains under investigation; however, at this time it does not appear that drugs or alcohol contributed to this crash," said Fishers Police Dept. Sergeant Tom Weger.

Leonard remained on scene following the incident and cooperating fully with investigators, police said.
