10 Indiana acts you should be listening to right now

All kinds of touring musicians make their way through Indiana on any given week. But, why wait for these when there are plenty of homegrown acts that deserve to be heard and supported?

While it's impossible to highlight all of them in a short list, we've come up with 10 exciting Indiana acts that should be part of your playlists. Give them a listen over on Spotify.

Bonesetters

Bonesetters

Formed in Muncie, this four-piece folk-pop band has come into its own since moving to Indianapolis, playing shows around the state and beyond. On the strength of its impressive 2014 Figure It Out EP, the group has also scored sessions with Daytrotter and Audiotree.

You'll like the Bonesetters if you like: Band of Horses, My Morning Jacket, Margot & the Nuclear So and So's.

Busman's Holiday

Busman’s Holiday

A singer/songwriter duo from Bloomington, Busman's Holiday consists of brothers Lewis (guitar, vocals) and Addison (drums, vocals) Rogers. Known for their charming live performances, the duo released their debut full-length album, A Long Goodbye, via Indianapolis' Joyful Noise Recordings last April.

You'll like Busman's Holiday if you like: The Kinks, Fleet Foxes, Belle and Sebastian.

Ghost Gun Summer

Ghost Gun Summer’s Sirius Blvck and John Stamps

Consisting of Oreo Jones, John Stamps, Sirius Blvck, Freddie Bunz and G Granite, this high-powered hip-hop collective first toured outside of the state in February, and from there they haven't looked back. In between tours, each individual in the group has remained hard at work, putting out records of their own. Sirius Blvck released his Light in the Attic full-length last December. And on the horizon, we have a fresh full-length from Oreo Jones due out.

Mike Adams At His Honest Weight

Since the break-up of his former band husband&wife, Bloomington's Mike Adams has continued to churn out tunes under his new solo moniker, releasing two excellent full-length albums in the past few years. The latest of these (2014's Best of Boiler Room Classics) features the song "I'm Worried," which was included in American Songwriter Magazine's Top 50 Songs of 2014.

Party Lines

Party Lines

You don't have to jump into a time machine to hear grooving '80s tunes. This Indianapolis band has you covered. Putting its own unique spin on the classic Prince-esque pop sound, the group recently released their latest Fool For Losin' You EP on Indy-based label Rad Summer.

You'll like Party Lines if you like: Prince, Michael Jackson, Daft Punk.

Sleeping Bag

Sleeping Bag

Playing an irresistible style of garage pop, this Bloomington three-piece has released three full-length albums with Joyful Noise Recordings since 2011, including 2014's Deep Sleep. It also appears lead vocalist/drummer Dave Segedy has stayed busy on his own during this time as well. Just last February, Entertainment Weekly premiered a track from his debut solo record, which was released on March 24.

S.M. Wolf

S.M. Wolf

S.M. Wolf has a lot in store for 2015, including a full-length album. Featured in NUVO's "Five bands and artists to watch in 2015," the Indianapolis psych pop group has already proven it prowess over the past year, both with their debut EP and numerous electrifying live shows around the state.

Street Spirits

Street Spirits

This Indianapolis band started as the bedroom project of frontman Todd Heaton. Now a couple years later, it has evolved into a full-on band, captivating rooms with shimmering Cure-esque pop that's beautifully represented on their debut full-length, Victoria's River.

Sweet Poison Victim

Sweet Poison Victim

Playing a brand of West African highlife music, this Indianapolis group creates a dance party wherever they play. No joke. Over the past year, they've lit up festivals, venues and more. So while they may not have an album out yet, you can get a good taste of what Sweet Poison Victim is all about at one of its many live shows around Indiana.

Thee Tsunamis

Thee Tsunamis

Betsy, Josie and Sharlene Tsunami make up this fuzzed-out Central Indiana rock 'n' roll trio. Already with a couple of releases under their belt, Thee Tsunamis just unveiled its second full-length on May 12— an album that was included in CMJ's Most Anticipated Releases for 2015.
