If Stones are coming, look for announcement Tuesday

If you remember when records skipped, you remember the Rolling Stones.

And the idea of the "World's Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Band" performing in Indianapolis this summer may be something you've heard before. All signs pointed to a North America tour announcement on March 19, but that day came and went with no significant news.

The needle is in the groove once again, and the Rolling Stones are expected on Tuesday to announce plans to perform at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 4.

Billboard magazine reported on the summer tour's less-than-well-kept secret. The Stones and Los Angeles-based concert promoter AEG Live are overseeing a contest in which the winner will record the stage announcement, "Ladies and gentleman, the Rolling Stones," and travel to an "undisclosed location within the United States during the month of July 2015."

Digital billboards, including one on Indiana State Fairgrounds property along Fall Creek Parkway, touted Rolling Stones song lyrics earlier this month and the word "Thursday" (presumably a reference to March 19). The messages have returned, featuring the band's distinctive lips-and-tongue logo (modified with the image of a U.S. flag) and the word "Tuesday."

The Star's auto-racing expert, Curt Cavin, shared tips he gleaned from this weekend's IndyCar season-opening event in St. Petersburg, Fla.:

"IMS will hold a press conference Tuesday morning at the yard of bricks to announce its Rolling Stones concert July 4. There will be an Indy car wrapped in the band's logo."

An Independence Day show in Indianapolis is part of a rumored 16-date itinerary that includes a May 30 show in Columbus, Ohio, a June 17 show in Nashville, Tenn., a June 23 show in Milwaukee and a July 8 show in Detroit.

The Rolling Stones -- Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ron Wood -- last performed in Indianapolis in 1994.
