Colts dig for players in obscure places

The Indianapolis Colts didn't pause to celebrate their eight selections in the NFL draft.

In the early evening hours on Saturday, the team's scouting staff got right down to business on signing undrafted free agents who will fill out the roster.

Among those the Colts are particularly excited about: Harvard linebacker Zack Hodges, the co-defensive player of the year in the Ivy League. Hodges recorded 10 tackles for losses and had 8.5 sacks in 2014 and, at 6-2, 250 pounds, could probably bulk up enough to be compete as an edge rusher in the 3-4 defense.

Another signing the Colts are encouraged by is Western Michigan cornerback Donald Celiscar. He lacks blazing speed but is regarded as one of the better bump-and-run cornerbacks in the draft – a style he'll have to play in Indianapolis. Celiscar had 33 passes defensed in his final two collegiate seasons.

Here's a list of the 13 other undrafted free agents the Colts have agreed to terms with:

RB Tyler Varga, Yale

QB Bryan Bennett, Southeastern Louisiana

TE Jean Sifrin, Massachusetts

OL Brandon Vitabile, Northwestern

WR Ezell Ruffin, San Diego State

TE Justin Sinz, Purdue

RB Abou Torre, Tennessee-Martin

DE Terrell Hartsfield, Cincinnati

CB Josh Mitchell, Nebraska

WR Quan Bray, Auburn

CB Al-Hajj Shabazz, West Chester University

LB Junior Sylvestre, Toledo

LB Cody Galea, San Diego State
