6 fitness gurus who will whip you into swimsuit shape

THE BEACH BODY

Who: Julie Voris, 45, wife, mother of three teen daughters. The former English teacher was just named a 13 Star Diamond Beachbody trainer and one of the Top 5 Beachbody Master Trainers for 2014. She is also a five-time Elite Beachbody coach.

The workout: She teaches Beachbody classes at Fishers YMCA, 9093 Technology Drive, Ste. 101. She also exercises for 30 minutes every morning. "I don't count my work-outs during my classes, because that's for them, not me."

The food: "85 percent of the results you get comes from nutrition … food can be medicine or it can be poison. I personally do Shakeology every day because it has 70 superfoods."

Her inspiration: Author/motivational speaker Chalene Johnson. "She started me on the fitness journey."

Her tips:

• Eat foods you can pronounce.

• Drink a lot of water.

• Go to bed and get plenty of sleep.

• Move a little more.

• "Music is key ... it is the motivator. What I really like is Broadway show tunes. I need lyrics and rhythm that make me feel something."

Goal for 2015: To ask, "How can I broaden my platform and help people understand fitness is not negotiable?"

THE BOXER

Who: Pete Nagy, 43. Head boxology trainer at Title Boxing Club, 2625 E. 62nd St. (Glendale) and 11647 Fishers Station Drive, Fishers.

His story: Nagy played basketball at Earlham College in Richmond, and picked up cross training and running when he graduated. He started in new-membership sales at Title 10 years ago, and then became a trainer two years ago.

Over 40-60 people pack his high-energy, no-holds-barred classes each week.

His workout: Lifts weights at Lifetime Gym three to four times a week for an hour, and does boxing classes on the side when he's not teaching.

His diet: Paleo diet.

"I try to do all non-processed foods. A lot of nuts and veggies." And as far as ingredients on food labels: "If I can't read it, I won't eat it."

Motivating music: "My classes know it is all about the music. We use an app called FIT Radio. We try to keep it super-fast and up-tempo."

Goal for 2015: "Never have the same class twice. Stay fresh.

"Every week I create a whole new workout for my classes."

THE 10,000-HOUR YOGI

Who: Heather T. Leo, 38, owner of Balance Yoga & Fitness, 404 W. Main St., Carmel. Mother to four teen boys and two bulldogs. Brand ambassador for Indoboard, SupLove and Lululemon.

Her story: Leo began practicing yoga in 1999 while pregnant. She quickly realized that the practice didn't just make her stronger and more flexible, but inspired her to live more mindfully and fearlessly.

Her teaching career began in 2006, when she cleared her living room of furniture and opened the doors to her friends. She's since logged more than 10,000 teaching hours.

The workout: "Daily yoga practice along with balanced-based exercises and calisthenics."

The food: "I have been a vegetarian my entire life. Vegetarianism came naturally to me."

Her inspiration: "My father is a strong, intelligent, loving man. He was an entrepreneur; he taught me to work hard and be anything I could dream."

THE ABS EXPERT

Who: Molly Palmatier, 41. Wife, mother of two. Teaches Pilates, Barre, yoga, strength and cycle classes. Creator and developer of the Quick Cuts Pilates Practice DVD.

Served on the Performance Enhancement team for USA Diving and trained Olympians.

Her motto: "Abs in!"

Her workout: Teaches one to two classes Mondays through Fridays and sometimes adds 20-minute cardio sessions on a treadmill, step mill or stairs outside.

Tips:

• "Mindfully move through some form of exercise at least 5 days a week."

• "Prop your feet/legs up at the end of the day and I mean high — back on floor, butt on baseboard and legs up the wall, so the body forms a right angle at the hips.

"I sit in this position for at least 2-5 minutes to get a hamstring stretch to allow anything that has accumulated 'down' to move back to my heart and get flushed out."

Her diet: "I do not diet, ever, but I eat smart and wholesome. I don't skip meals, I try to drink lots of water and be mindful of portion sizes."

Inspiration: "God. He gave us our body and mind. So out of respect and to show my gratitude it is my duty to take care of myself."

Motivating music: A variety, from New Age stuff like Moodswings to Kenny Rogers, Van Halen, Needtobreathe, Snow Patrol and OneRepublic.

Goal for 2015: "To speak less and with more meaning. To de-clutter my head and surroundings and live simpler."

THE GURU

Who: Sean Bartram, 36, husband and father. Head trainer to the Indianapolis Colts cheerleaders and author of "The Idiot's Guide to High Intensity Interval Training" and "HIIT for Women." Owner of Core Pilates and Fitness, corepilatesandfitness.com, 271 Merchants Square Drive, Carmel.

Clients include Dwayne Allen, Matt Overton (Indianapolis Colts), Jack Hawksworth, Martin Plowman and Jack Harvey (IndyCar).

His workout: 45 minutes of reformer and weight-based strength training and 45-60 minutes of HIIT, five to six days per week.

Sean Bartram

His diet: Paleo-inspired, high-protein, low-carb but always with a cheat meal.

Inspiration: My father, who spent 28 years in the military service and my mother, who kept our family strong.

THE BALLET BODY

Who: McKinzie Roth. Wife, mother of a 4-year-old girl, Andy Mohr spokeswoman, model, radio and TV personality. Roth, 33, recently moved to Portland, Ore., and commutes to Indy for work.

Her workout: Four or five days a week, she joins ReForm Movement pilates and Pure Barre classes. "When you pay for a class you are more likely to show up. Plus you make friends."

Her diet: "I've never been a calorie counter or had a super strict diet. It's all about how you feel. I try to see food as fuel to energize, but I truly believe life is too short not to enjoy a cupcake once in a while."

Her tips:

"Get fit and have fun. Laughing burns calories!"

• Give up the need to be liked by everyone."

• "Use your gut as your GPS system in life. It always knows the best way. Trust it."

Ultimate goal: "To host a national television program. I'll be ready when Kelly Ripa decides to retire."
