The New Pornographers

8 p.m. July 14, the Vogue, 6259 N. College Ave., $25 to $27, (317) 259-7029, thingstodo.indystar.com/events/97417523.

With members that include A.C. Newman, Neko Case and Destroyer frontman Dan Bejar, this power-pop supergroup has managed to stick together for more than a decade despite individual busy schedules. On tour to promote their "Brill Bruisers" album, the New Pornographers are a long-list nominee for the 2015 Polaris Music Prize in their home country Canada.

Desaparecidos

7 p.m. July 16, Deluxe in Old National Centre, 502 N. New Jersey St., $22, (317) 231-0000, thingstodo.indystar.com/events/97546228.

Desaparecidos will perform on July 16 at Old National Centre.

After releasing its first album in 2002, this punk band from Omaha, Neb., abruptly called it quits because of the increasing success of frontman Conor Oberst's Bright Eyes project. More than a decade later, Oberst and company are back at it with "Payola," a new album that's louder and angrier than ever. ConsequenceOfSound.net commented, "Few bands can return after a 13-year absence and sound vital and fresh, transforming an old-school approach into a process that sounds original. That's precisely what Desaparecidos have done, making 'Payola' a welcome comeback surprise."

Melt-Banana and Torche

9 p.m. July 13, the Hi-Fi, 1043 Virginia Ave., $16 to $18, (317) 493-1209, thingstodo.indystar.com/events/91313309.

Torche will perform on July 13 at the Hi-Fi.

Don't forget your earplugs when heading to this noisy Monday show co-headlined by Japan's Melt-Banana and Miami's Torche. Melt-Banana has toured extensively since the early '90s with its experimental noise-rock sound while also releasing 10 studio albums. Although it's been around about only half as long, Torche has made quite a name for itself in recent years, playing a style of sludge metal that can be heard on the 2015 album, "Restarter."

Local H

9 p.m. July 10, The Hi-Fi, 1043 Virginia Ave.; $15; (317) 493-1209, thingstodo.indystar.com/events/98324159.

Local H will perform on July 10 at the Hi-Fi.

Before bands like the White Stripes and the Black Keys, this grunge rock band from Zion, Ill., found success with a simple yet powerful two-piece lineup, eventually breaking through with the 1996 radio hit "Bound for the Floor." Still fronted by vocalist/guitarist Scott Lucas after more than two decades, Local H recently released "Hey, Killer," the band's eighth studio album and first with new drummer Ryan Harding.

Swirlies

8 p.m. July 11, Joyful Noise Recordings, 1043 Virginia Ave. Suite 208, $10 to $12, (317) 632-3220, joyfulnoiserecordings.com, thingstodo.indystar.com/events/97255814.

Swirlies will perform on July 11 at Joyful Noise Recordings.

One of the earliest American shoegaze bands, Swirlies formed in Cambridge, Mass., in the summer of 1990. The band stops by Joyful Noise as part of a celebratory 25th anniversary tour, being joined on the bill by noteworthy Indiana acts Sleeping Bag and Jorma Whittaker.
