Ivy Tech Community College will freeze tuition for some of its students.

The plan will freeze tuition for people who continue their education from term to term, provided they are enrolled in the minimum number of credit hours, including the summer, or have 30 or more credit hours for the 2015-16 school year.

"This is an incentive model for both our non-traditional, part-time students along with those full-time students on a two-year track to graduation," Ivy Tech President Thomas Snyder said in a statement. "We know students who are continuously enrolled are more likely to complete a credential."

The plan is similar to one in place at Purdue University, which also has quelled tuition increases.

Ivy Tech believes the freeze will encourage students to complete their education and remain enrolled because nontraditional students have more life and work issues that interfere with their schooling.
