A look at the study in the home at 12062 Hawthorn Ridge. The six bedroom home comes with space for entertainment.

When Donna Horrall and her husband, Scott, began their house hunt, they didn't have a basketball court on their wish list. They were looking for more space. Bedrooms and bathrooms were the priority but the indoor gym quickly became their go-to space for sweat inducing workouts and games.

"I guess, it's kind of like a pool," Horrall said. "You don't buy (a house) for the pool, but since we have three kids, we thought it would be sort of a cool feature."

In between hoops, the Horrall family uses the sports court for yoga, Jazzercise and P90X.

The 8,520 square-foot home in Hamilton Proper subdivision is one of the only houses in the neighborhood with a dedicated space for the state's most popular sport — basketball.

An indoor basketball court comes with a mounted rim.

There's room in the gym for exercise equipment and weights. The next owner could install a putting mat in the basement if rain closes the golf course a few steps away.

From the kitchen window, the Horrall family has a view the sixth hole at The Hawthorns golf course.

A pond in the rear accents the view.

Other neighborhood amenities include hiking and jogging trails, preserved natural areas and tennis courts for country club members.

Inside, Horrall's favorite room is the open concept gourmet kitchen attached to a hearth room and fireplace.

"When we have gatherings for Easter and Christmas we hang out here," Horrall said. "I love to cook and my husband loves to grill."

The family spends most of their time in the kitchen. But there's also space to hang out on the lower level with an English-style pub, wine cellar and cigar room.

A library is adjacent to the master suite on the "west wing" of the home. That's what the kids called it, Horrall said with a chuckle.

A spa-like bathroom with a soaking tub, dual vanity and walk-in shower complete the master suite.

The closet in the master is equipped with a built-in ironing board. Three bedrooms, all with attached bathrooms, and a bonus room for a ping pong table or third hangout spot complete the space.

"It's very family friendly," Horrall said. "I think it's a great home for people bringing kids into the community."
