Coroner IDs child struck, killed on Westside

Update: The Marion County Coroner's Office has identified the child as 2-year-old Cody Beck.

A 2-year-old boy died Thursday evening after he was struck by a vehicle on the city’s Westside.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police responded to the call around 6:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of North Centennial Street.

“It just appears to be a tragic accident,” IMPD spokesman Officer Rafael Diaz said.

Witnesses told police the child ran into the street and was struck by a Dodge Durango in the residential neighborhood.

The driver stopped, Diaz said, and is cooperating with authorities.

The investigation is ongoing.
