For the Rolling Stones, footnotes include a tour chronicled by Truman Capote, romantic entanglements with Canadian first lady Margaret Trudeau and pirate movies made with Johnny Depp.

Mick Jagger and Keith Richards played their first show as the Rolling Stones in 1962. Drummer Charlie Watts joined the band in 1963, and guitarist Ronnie Wood replaced Mick Taylor (who earlier had succeeded Brian Jones) in 1975. Bill Wyman played bass in the band from 1962 to 1993, and Darryl Jones has filled that role for more than two decades.
