Fresh peaches!

The Peach Truck sells what it claims to be "the best peaches you'll ever have" 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 8 and 29 at Fountain Square's Wildwood Market. The freestone peaches come from Pearson Farm, a 130-year-old Georgia peach and pecan plot that has been family farmed for five generations. Peaches are grown with water-saving drip irrigation systems and minimal pesticides. When Georgia native Stephen Rose brought one of these peaches to the apple of his eye in Nashville, Tenn., she fell for the peaches, too. Now, Rose and his wife, Jessica, run The Peach Truck. Beginning in late June, they start the annual Freestone Peach Tour through Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana. Peaches are available only by the half bushel (25 pounds), which costs $39. Pay with cash, checks or credit/debit cards. The Peach Truck brings recipes, too. Wildwood Market owners will continue to offer the peaches in the days and weeks following the truck's stop. These peaches are available until mid-August only.

Biggest ice cream party ever

A few dozen Indy celebrities, including Indy Star food writer Liz Biro, serve sundaes for the 26th annual Ice Cream Social 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 10 on Downtown’s Monument Circle.

Did you know Indiana ranks No. 2 in ice cream production across the United States? More than 30 celebrities and I serve sundaes for the 26th annual Ice Cream Social from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 10 on Downtown's Monument Circle. We'll scoop Edy's Slow Churned Light Ice Cream sundaes topped with Kroger's chocolate, strawberry or caramel syrups (some available sugar-free). Toppings include Kroger's jumbo maraschino cherries and sprinkles, Prairie Farm's whipped cream and Brics Broad Ripple Ice Cream Oreo cookie crumbles. Get a sundae for a minimum donation of $3. All proceeds benefit Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis, a nonprofit inspiring girls ages 6 to 18 to be strong, smart and bold via empowering programs at local schools and community centers. The day's events also feature face painting, a photo booth, the Pacers Fan Van, live music and a scavenger hunt. Also meet Molly and her calves, cows from Purdue Dairy Sciences. Indy Eleven's "Zeke" and Indy Fuel's "Nitro the Dragon" mascots will be there, too.

Bacon and beer, together

Bacon + Beer = True Love. Find it 1 to 4 p.m. or 7 to 10 p.m. July 11 at the Bacon and Beer Classic on Downtown's Victory Field. No matter which time you choose to pop in, look for bacon deliciousness from 26 restaurants including Giordano's, Shoefly Public House and Oakley's Bistro. Thirty-eight local and national breweries will pour. Taxman, Dogfish Head, Victory and Bier are on the list. Expect the unexpected. Star beverage reporter Amy Haneline and I will be among judges awarding the best use of bacon and weirdest twist on a craft beer. Cooking demonstrations, beer schools, music and games are part of the fun. Tickets cost $49 for general admission, $89 for VIP early birds, $29 for designated drivers and $19 for kids.

Taste an Indy landmark

If Monument Circle were food, what would the recipe be? That's the kind of question some Indy chefs are pondering thanks to Dig IN, which promotes locally grown food and stages the huge "Dig IN: A Taste of Indiana" food and drink festival in August. Dig IN brings together top chefs, bartenders, and artists for "Indulge. Imbibe. Imagine" 4 to 8 p.m. July 12 at Bent Rail Brewery. Each trio of chef, bartender and artist reimagine Indiana landmarks such as Angel Mounds, the Indiana Dunes and Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Taste the results for $40 per person in advance or $45 at the door.
