Ex-Indiana high school QB next 'Bachelor'

USA Today
Indiana native Ben Higgins has been named the "Bachelor" for the 20th season of the ABC series.

On Monday evening Chris Harrison revealed that the Bachelor for the 20th season of the ABC series will be Indiana native Ben Higgins.

The 26-year-old was the second runner-up on Kaitlyn Bristowe's season of The Bachelorette.

Higgins is a former Warsaw High School football star. At quarterback, he led the Tigers to a 7-5 record in 2007. The Indiana native currently lists Winona Lake, ind., as his current residence on Twitter.

Harrison made the announcement live on Bachelor in Paradise: After Paradise, and Higgins could hardly contain his excitement.

"It's incredible," he said. "I think people like me don't get opportunities like this."

Mere minutes after the announcement was made, Amy Schumer, who appeared on Bristowe's season, expressed her elation over the news via phone.

"Ben I am so excited for you," the comedian said. "I hope you find love."

And Higgins is ready to hand out that final rose and perhaps even a sparkler from Neil Lane.

"A lot of my closest friends are married. They're starting their families. I have a great example of love through my parents, and through grandparents, and family. I'm ready for it. I'm excited to start now sharing life with somebody."
