Indiana marching band to sell mattresses for uniforms
HAGERSTOWN, Ind. – Imagine, if you will, wearing the same outfit to every public appearance for 23 years.
That’s what the Hagerstown High School marching band has been doing.
And that’s why the Hagerstown band and music boosters are raising money for new uniforms.
The group’s goal is to raise $40,000. They want to place their order for new uniforms this fall, said band director Andrew Sloniker, so that the uniforms will be delivered in time for the 2016 summer band marching competition season.
The band placed ninth at the recent Indiana State Fair Band Day competition.
The first big fundraising event will be a mattress sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, at the Hagerstown High School auxiliary gym at the school at 701 Baker Road.
Sloniker said the mattress sale offers a chance for the school to raise money while customers get a discounted price because the sellers have no store costs.
Band members also are selling butter braids through September. They come in several flavors, and bundles are available. To place an order, customers should contact any band member or call the school at (765) 489-4511.
Additionally, those who would like to donate directly to the uniform fund may do so online at tigersounds.weebly.com.
The band will make its next public appearance at 7 p.m. Oct. 29 during its fall concert at the high school. A fundraising supper will be offered beforehand.
