Drivers traveling their morning commute watched a car hit and kill a motorcyclist, and then drive away. So they called police and followed the car, which led to an apprehension, police said.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police detectives are investigating a hit-and-run that killed one man Thursday morning on the Northside, IMPD officer Chris Wilburn said.

Wilburn said the motorcycle was traveling south on Keystone Avenue, when the car driving east on 40th Street struck the bike just before 7 a.m.

The car then drove away south on Keystone, Wilburn said.

Witnesses who saw the crash followed the car, allowing officers to quickly detain a suspect in the hit-and-run, Wilburn said.

Detectives are questioning the man, and believe alcohol is a factor in the crash.
