Conference titles were clinched, upsets completed and some more wild finishes highlighted Week 8 of high school football action.

CARMEL 30, WARREN CENTRAL 20

Michael Viktrup-to-Jalen Walker was a popular phrase Friday night as the Class 6A No. 2 Greyhounds were able to hold off the sixth-ranked Warriors in a usual tough MIC battle.

GUERIN CATHOLIC 17, BISHOP CHATARD 13

The Class 3A No. 10 Golden Eagles picked up their first-ever win over the No. 3 Trojans, setting off wild postgame scenes at homecoming for Guerin.

RONCALLI 30, DECATUR CENTRAL 14

Rebels QB Robbie Strader did a little bit of everything Friday for Roncalli, including pinning two punts at the 1-yard line, making things more difficult on the Class 5A No. 7 Hawks.

CATHEDRAL 51, BREBEUF JESUIT 21

The Class 6A No. 4 Irish improved to 5-0 against teams from Indiana as Markese Stepp and Max Bortenschlager once again provided the offensive highlights.

CENTER GROVE 17, LAWRENCE NORTH 7

On a night when the visiting Wildcats (2-6, 1-5) held hard-running Titus McCoy to under 100 yards, quarterback Joey Siderewicz stepped into the void with a touchdown pass to Zak Smith and a career-best 58-yard scoring run to lift the Class 6A No. 1 Trojans (8-0, 7-0) to a solo championship of the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference, the first in school history.

The Trojans held North without a completion and racked up an efficient 328 yards of offense. Lawrence North rushed for 189 yards, much of it by Al McKeller, who had a TD and 158 yards on the ground. The win was the 13th straight regular-season triumph for Center Grove.

After a scoreless first quarter, two HSE rushing touchdowns -- a one-yard run from Carter Poiry and a four-yard run from Aaron Mateo -- proved to be the difference. A Quri Hickman 8-yard TD run in the fourth for Hartley made it close, but the Royals came away with the victory.

With a strong performance on all levels, the Dragons (8-0) led by 35 over the Trojans (1-7) after one quarter and didn't let up. Led by another strong performance from Alex Neligh, the Dragons led by 63 going into the half and the defense held the Trojans to 24 total yards. Dragons kicker Spencer Corey made all 10 of his extra point attempts which brings his total to 69 straight on the season.

John Gallman rushed for 194 yards and four touchdowns to help the visiting Woodmen (5-3, 4-1) snap a two-game losing skid with a shutout win over the Mid-State Conference arch-rival Grizzly Cubs (1-7, 1-4).

Gallman had plenty of help from teammate Brandon Rosado, who also topped the 100-yard mark in Greenwood's 399-yard ground game, and brother Seth Gallman, who threw just six passes but made them count for five completions and a touchdown to Jackson Daugherty.

Franklin's most effective weapon was Zach Dowell, who gained 86 yards on just 10 rushing attempts, but Franklin couldn't overcome three turnovers.

Montrez Hearon grabbed six passes for 195 yards and three touchdowns to clinch at least a share of the Indiana Crossroads Conference title for the Hornets (6-2, 6-1) in a solid win over the visiting Class 2A No. 9 Tigers (4-4, 3-3).

Chase Andries handled the passing chores for Beech Grove, throwing for 310 yards and adding another 67 yards on the ground, plus a fourth score. Beech Grove can do no worse than share the league crown with Monrovia (7-1, 5-1), which will meet Scecina in next week’s regular-season finale.

Bailey Barnham hauled in a 32 yard pass from Jake Reid in the fourth quarter to help the Saints overcome an early 27-point deficit and down the Sparkplugs.

The winning points came on the only passing touchdown of the contest as both teams unleashed a ground assault that saw the teams combine for 950 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.

Lutheran used a two-headed monster, with Andre Jones gaining 209 yards on 20 carries with a scores and Kyle Johnson going for 185 yards on 18 carries and four touchdowns.

The performance of the night belonged to Speedway's Jacob Jones, who carried 29 times for 468 yards and six touchdowns.
