When it opened: March 9.

What: When you think airport hotels, you probably think of sterile, beige, lifeless, tired-looking inns. The new Holiday Inn Airport Indianapolis features a modern design, craft beers on tap in the lounge, a "Burger Theory" restaurant with house-made hamburger patties and salads, TVs in rooms that can wirelessly play what is on a guest's computer or phone, and high ceilings. Ameriplex LLC, whose principal partners include Holladay Properties and Schahet Hotels, spent $14 million to develop a stretch of vacant land into a 122-room inn. It's the newest hotel competing for business within a few miles of Indianapolis International Airport.

Location: 8555 Stansted Drive, about five minutes south of the airport in Decatur Township. It's off the Ameriplex Parkway, near Kentucky Avenue and I-70. A 24-hour shuttle provides free airport runs.

Cool thing we found: Like many brand-new locations, the staff is eager to point out amenities. The server ran through the entire menu and the bartender described many of the beers (eight on draft, 24 in bottles) and spirits.
