A Muncie man is accused of battering his pregnant girlfriend and throwing a table that struck her 9-year-old son in the face.

Randy Torres, 34, of the 2000 block of East 29th Street, was arrested Sunday on preliminary charges of battery resulting in bodily injury to a pregnant female, battery to a person under the age of 14, domestic battery, obstruction of justice, false reporting and invasion of privacy.

City police said Torres’ girlfriend on Oct. 5 reported he had pushed, kicked, grabbed and scratched her during an argument over his purported failure to buy medicine to treat their one-year-old son’s pink eye.

During the dispute, the woman said, her older son was struck by a table thrown by Torres.

Torres is accused of violating a protective order issued in northeastern Indiana’s Steuben County by being in his accuser’s company.

On July 21, he was convicted of domestic battery and invasion of privacy in that county. He was also convicted of domestic battery in 2008.

He was being held in the Delaware County jail on Monday under a $20,000 bond.
