Car hits John Wooden statue at Downtown Indianapolis

A two-car accident caused this driver to crash into the John Wooden statue at the Monday, October 5, 2015, afternoon at the corner of Meridian and Georgia Streets downtown Indianapolis.

A two-vehicle crash Downtown ended with a car slamming into the John Wooden statue at Georgia and Meridian streets.

The collision happened around 2:45 p.m. when two sedans met in the intersection, officials at the scene confirmed.

Details about how the crash happened remain slim, but a Nissan with visible damage on its passenger side struck the base of Wooden statue head-on. Airbags inside the vehicle deployed, and medics were checking on the driver at the scene.

The other vehicle, a Buick, sustained heavy front-end damage. It is unclear if occupants in either vehicle will need to be taken to the hospital.
