An Indianapolis man has been charged in the killings of two women last weekend, according to online court records.

Eric Horton, 22, was arrested in Urbana, Ill., on Wednesday night "for his alleged connection" to the slayings of 34-year-old India Barnes and 34-year-old Tomika Mack on Nov. 28, according to a statement issued Thursday afternoon by Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Lt. Richard Riddle.

The Champaign County (Ill.) Sheriff's Office website indicates that Horton is being held on a fugitive from justice charge. However, Marion County (Ind.) online court records show that he's facing two counts of murder.

About 10:24 p.m. Nov. 28, IMPD officers were called to a home in the 4100 block of East New York Street on a report of a person shot.

Officers found Barnes and Mack, both from Indianapolis, with apparent gunshot wounds, police said. A short time later, medics arrived and pronounced both women dead at the scene.

Investigators learned that the residence is a halfway house with units on both sides of the building, police said.  Earlier in the day, officers were called to a disturbance at the same location, and police were  investigating whether there was a connection to the double homicide.
