National Garlic Day

Celebrate the "stinking rose" on National Garlic Day April 19 by touring garlic eats around Indy. Go for the garlic fries at Boogie Burger, 1904 E. Broad Ripple Ave. Consider Garlicky Mussels served in garlic butter sauce with toasted garlic bread at Joe's Crab Shack, 7303 U.S. 31 South. BARcelona Tapas' pimientos asados put plenty of garlic on roasted red peppers, 201 N. Delaware St. The Garlic Three Cheese Burger at Bru Burger Bar features roasted garlic, truffle aioli and Swiss, American and mozzarella cheeses, 410 Massachusetts Ave. Pick up a Michael Graves-designed garlic press at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, 4000 Michigan Road, and take a moment to think about Chicago. The city's name comes from the American Indian word, chicagaoua, which refers to wild garlic that grew around Lake Michigan.

Earth Day wine tasting

Sip organic wine and learn about organic gardening during the Earth Day celebration 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 22 at Public Greens. Benziger Family Winery, located in California's Sonoma region, offers a free tasting. Every wine in the company's portfolio is made with grapes from vineyards that are certified sustainable, organic or biodynamic. Biodynamic farming not only eliminates synthetic chemicals but also encourages biodiversity and close personal connections to the land. Public Greens' farm manager Joe Huff leads tours of the restaurant's on-site gardens. Additionally, Bee Public talks beekeeping and Naptown Chickens discusses how to raise chickens.
