A complaint of illegal dumping in Marion County ultimately led to a man's arrest Wednesday on a charge of possessing child pornography.

Police said the investigation into Allan J. Brown-Newberry began last week, when an Indiana conservation officer responded to a report of illegal dumping at the intersection of West Thompson and Flynn roads.

Police said the conservation officer found Brown-Newberry, 34, sitting in his vehicle at the intersection. The officer searched Brown-Newberry's car and found a laptop with what appeared to be child porn displayed on the computer's screen.

Brown-Newberry's vehicle was impounded, and police obtained a search warrant for the car and the computer, police said. The assistance of the Indiana State Police Internet Crimes Against Children unit was requested and, during the search, investigators found what police said was illegal content on multiple devices inside the vehicle.

On Wednesday, a search and arrest warrant was served at Brown-Newberry's mother's West Newton home and his current residence in Richmond, where he was taken into custody.

Online court records indicate Brown-Newberry is facing eight counts of possession of child pornography, as well as two misdemeanor counts of marijuana and paraphernalia possession.

Police said he has been booked into the Wayne County Jail while he awaits transport to Marion County.
