Announcing January's Marsh Indiana Athletes of the Month.

The voting for January's Marsh Indiana Athletes of the Month came down to the wire in both the boys and girls polls, and after more than 60,000 votes were cast, it was basketball players KC Earls of Mooresville and Macee Williams of Fountain Central who came away with the most votes.

Earls, who is 10th in the state in scoring averaging 23.9 points a game, has led the Pioneers to a 12-5 record. In Tuesday's win over Bloomington North, Earls scored a game-high 24 points. A 6-1 senior, he edged out Roncalli basketball player Christian Stewart with 36 percent of the vote compared to 31 percent.

On the girls side, Williams collected more than 16,000 votes. She was nominated for her strong play to end the month. Against South Vermillion on Jan. 26, Williams had 31 points, 12 rebounds, four blocks and two steals. Against No. 9 Class A Riverton Parke on Jan. 28, she had 34 points, 26 rebounds, five blocks and three steals.

A 6-foot junior, Williams averaged 21.7 points, 14.6 rebounds and 3.2 blocks a game as Fountain Central finished the season 17-5 after losing to Carroll (Flora) in Class 2A sectional action Feb. 3

The Marsh Indiana Athletes of the Month are part of our ongoing efforts to recognize the state's top high school athletes, which will culminate with the inaugural Indiana Sports Awards April 28 at Lucas Oil Stadium featuring keynote speaker Colts QB Andrew Luck.
