A man who drove himself to a gas station after being shot late Wednesday morning has died, police said.

A 28-year-old man died of a gunshot wound after driving himself to a gas station Wednesday.

The fatal shooting was Indianapolis' 135th reported criminal homicide this year — tying last year’s total for the whole year.

Homicide detectives were called to a Citgo gas station at 34th Street and Emerson Avenue for a shooting investigation at 11:48 a.m. Wednesday, according to dispatch reports.

The man, later identified as Ronald Munn, was shot nearby at 33rd Street and Butler Avenue during an altercation with an unidentified person, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Richard Riddle said.

They both fled after the shooting, with the victim driving his silver Dodge sedan to the gas station.

Riddle said the victim stepped out of his car and collapsed at the Citgo. Medics rushed him to Eskenazi Hospital in extremely critical condition, and he later died there.

As of Wednesday afternoon, no information about the shooter or possible motive had been released.

The incident remains under investigation.
