Butler Bulldogs forward Roosevelt Jones had 19 points, six rebounds and five assists in an 87-76 home victory over Georgetown on Feb. 2. He topped that Saturday with the Bulldogs’ first triple-double in 32 years, collecting 10 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists in an 89-56 victory at St. John’s.

How can you be national Player of the Week in college basketball and not Player of the Week in your own conference?

When you have the kind of week the Butler Bulldogs did.

Roosevelt Jones was selected national Player of the Week by CBS Sports on Monday. He had the Bulldogs’ first triple-double in 32 years, collecting 10 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists in an 89-56 victory at St. John’s on Saturday.

It was the 15th triple-double in history in a game between two Big East teams.

Jones also had 19 points, six rebounds and five assists in an 87-76 home victory against Georgetown on Tuesday.

How will he celebrate? He posted on Twitter that he will go to Monday’s Indiana Pacers game to see the Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant, who has always been his favorite player.

Jones’ Butler teammate, sophomore Kelan Martin, is the Big East Player of the Week. He scored 35 points — most by a Bulldog in 18 years and most by a Big East player this season — against Georgetown and 18 against St. John’s.

Martin was also chosen Dec. 14 as league Player of the Week. In league play, he is fourth in the Big East in scoring (17.5).

Elsewhere in the Big East, Villanova is ranked No. 1 in The Associated Press poll for the first time in school history. The Wildcats (20-3) climbed two spots from No. 3 after losses by then-No. 1 Oklahoma to Kansas State and then-No. 2 North Carolina to Notre Dame.

Villanova is the sixth team to claim the No. 1 spot this season, one off the record.
