Mayor Jim Brainard announced Cureatr has moved to Carmel.

A New York-based health care technology company called Cureatr has opened its Midwest headquarters in Carmel, Mayor Jim Brainard announced this morning.

Cureatr was founded in 2012 and connects patients with healthcare providers via an app. The company has three local employees. Dr. Joseph Mayer, the company's CEO and founder, said he would hire three more local employees in the near term. Salaries will start at $75,000 per year.

Cureatr chose Carmel due to its low taxes, quality of life and proximity to major health care providers and college institutions. The company opened a 1,000-square foot office on North Illinois Street in July.

Local communities are placing increased focus on attracting start-up tech companies in hopes they grow into major jobs providers.
