8 places to practice hot yoga

There's nothing that makes you feel as accomplished as workout clothes so drenched in sweat that they feel like they were dropped into a swimming pool. A 10-mile summer run can do the trick, or instead, achieve an intensely detoxifying sweat in just an hour with a hot yoga class.

In a room heated from about 85 degrees to 104 degrees, depending on the class type and studio, participants move through yoga poses with heat aiding the body more deeply into a pose, as well as creating a cleansing sweat.

Not all studios offer hot yoga classes, but here are eight places in the Indianapolis area that do. Bring water. And a towel.

City Yoga

2442 Central Ave., Indianapolis, 317-920-9642, http://www.cityoga.biz/

North of Downtown, City Yoga offers a variety of classes, including at least one hot yoga class each day of the week. Most are in the vinyasa style, meaning students flow dynamically through poses.

Treehouse Yoga

22 E. 16th St., Indianapolis, 317-602-7707, http://treehouseindy.com/

The studio in the Herron-Morton Place neighborhood offers hot flow classes, described as challenging flows that link breath and movement. The room is heated to about 95 degrees.

The Hot Room

3855 E. 96th St., Indianapolis, 317-650-7736, http://indyhotroom.com/

North of The Fashion Mall at Keystone, the studio offers classes in the Bikrum style. Bikrum yoga is practiced in a room heated to about 105 degrees and generally runs 90 minutes. A style developed by Bikram Choudhury, the practice follows a fixed set of 26 poses. It is different from vinyasa yoga classes.

Studio YOU Yoga

862 S. State Road 135, Suite I, Greenwood, 317-882-8733, http://studioyouyoga.com/

The Greenwood studio offers a couple of different levels of hot yoga in a vinyasa style. A hot yoga class heated to about 90 degrees is recommended for more experienced yogis, while a heated vinyasa class is suitable for beginners.

The Yoga Studio

6245 N. College Ave., Indianapolis, 317-255-9642, 736 Hanover Place, Carmel, 317-805-1868, http://www.indyyogastudio.com/

The studio, with locations in Broad Ripple and Carmel, features a variety of classes, all hot or heated. Classes such as Hot Vinyasa, Slow Flow, Power Yoga, Short Form Ashtanga, Restorative Yoga, YinYasa and Yoga CoreCardio are all offered.

Yoga Monkey and Fitness

6160 Hillside Ave., Indianapolis, 317-493-1521, http://www.indyyogastudio.com/

The fitness studio offers hot yoga alongside various other fitness classes, like barre and piloxing. The hot yoga class is heated to more than 90 degrees and incorporates sun salutations as well as balance poses.

Evolutions Yoga

2801 Fairview Place, Greenwood, 317-881-YOGA, http://www.indyyogastudio.com/

The Greenwood studio offers some hot classes, like a heated vinyasa and a "Rock Your Vinyasa: Hot." The studio divides classes into levels, so people can choose a class based on their level of experience. And it offers some affordable $5 community classes, ranging in formats.

Invoke Studio

970 Fort Wayne Ave. Suite C, Indianapolis, 317-631-9642, http://www.invokestudio.com/

This studio offers flow-style hot yoga classes, among a long list of class offerings. Located Downtown, the studio also offers pilates classes.
