Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee thinks his quarterback Andrew Luck should be paid -- lots.

Water is wet. Grass is green.

Obviously.

Just as obvious is the prediction that Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has a colossal contract awaiting him come signing time, argues Pat McAfee.

The Colts punter took to Twitter on Tuesday -- after Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill signed a mammoth contract extension worth up to $96 million.

"Well today's market showed that a 25-25 record gets you 96 million American dollars... Andrew's about to own a team I think #Tannehill #Luck."

Tannehill's record was actually 23-25, but we digress. After the tweet, a backlash ensued.

Dolphins fans took offense. McAfee wasn't praising his own quarterback. He was ripping on theirs.

McAfee says he was just stating the obvious.

Luck and Tannehill are members of the same 2012 NFL draft class. Luck, a Stanford grad, went as the No. 1 pick. Tannehill, who played at Texas A&M, went No. 8. Since then, Luck has outperformed Tannehill with playoff showings in his first three seasons.

"Never said anything negative bout Mr Tannehil..What I was saying "2-14~>AFC Champ game=Huge Payday," McAfee tweeted Wednesday.

But the backlash didn't stop.

Critics started demeaning McAfee. Calling him "just a punter." Not a real football player. And worse.

So, McAfee on Thursday tried his hardest to make his point, once again. If Tannehill gets $96 million. Luck will get more. Obviously.

First he tweeted: "Grass is green."

Then he tweeted: "Water is wet."

Whether Luck's contract will surpass $96 million? Probably. But that won't be known for a while.

Team owner Jim Irsay has said that Luck won't get a new contract until the end of next season, at the earliest. The Colts already have picked up Luck's fifth-year option.

There has been chatter that when the contract is signed, Luck will become the highest-paid quarterback -- and possibly the highest-paid player in the NFL.
