UPDATE: Marion County coroner's office identifies the victim as 27-year-old Ryan Smith.

A man is dead following a shooting Monday night on the city's Eastside, just north of Washington Park.

Police said the shooting happened around 7 p.m. in the Meadows neighborhood near 35th and North Oxford streets.

Indianapolis Metro Police officers were dispatched to the area on a report of a person shot. When units arrived on scene they found a man in the 3500 block of Oxford suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

The Marion County coroner's office identified the victim as 27-year-old Ryan Smith.

Emergency medical personnel quickly transported Smith to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. He died from his wounds less than an hour later, police said.

Officers and investigators meet beside a squad car in the 3500 block of North Oxford Street where a man was shot and killed Monday night.

Investigators have not confirmed the man's age, but believe he's in his late 20s. About 28 years old, one detective said.

Witnesses told detectives that a white SUV occupied by two men was last seen speeding off from the area immediately following the shooting, police said.

As of late Monday night, police did not have any suspects in custody.

This is the third fatal shooting in Indianapolis in less than 24 hours. If ruled a criminal homicide, it'll be the 106th murder of 2015.
