Indianapolis restaurant development is on a roll. Places keep popping up all over the metro area, and they're not the chains and steakhouses that have characterized Indy in the past. Since the start of 2015, I've told you about nearly 30 new or soon-to-open restaurants. Here's the latest on even more.

Chef Dan’s in Indianapolis started as a catering operation in 2009 and added a food truck in 2011. The Irvington restaurant the company opened in early 2015 closed in March 2017.

Cajun and Creole at Chef Dan's

Popular Indy food truck Chef Dan's has moved its Southern comfort food menu into brick-and-mortar space in Irvington. Chef Dan's began with catering in 2009 and added a food truck in 2011. Find Cajun and Creole signatures such as deep-fried boudin balls, crawfish etouffee, bread pudding and po' boy sandwiches, including one with alligator. Get fried chicken, hamburgers and pulled pork, too.

Hot tacos, doughnut sandwiches at Fletcher Place

Neal Brown, the chef who gave Indy Pizzology, has a taco place named Juanita that may launch by this summer at Fletcher Place. Brown is not revealing the address yet. He's in Mexico this week doing "research," and he's been testing recipes like smoked pork mole tacos. Meantime, the neighborhood's General American Donut Co. has added a donut sandwich lunch menu. Every sandwich is on an unglazed, yeast doughnut, except for the one on a homemade biscuit. Don't miss The General with fried chicken, sriracha, slaw, strawberry jam and fried pickles. So good! A grilled cheese donut sandwich coming soon.

Bar Rev

That the chef-driven restaurant Revery opened in chain-restaurant-dotted Greenwood was shocker enough. On March 25, owners unveiled speakeasy-style Bar Rev. Former Libertine barman Adam Hayden is responsible for the so-well-balanced drinks. Don't miss the Indiana English (Bone Snapper rye whiskey, Pimm's No. 1, fresh mint). Exposed brick, repurposed pews, a barely marked side entrance and booze locked behind bars gives the place a Prohibition hideaway feel. Ask about ghosts said to haunt the place and about Bar Rev's custom Woodford Reserve bourbon coming soon.

Lazy Frogg

American favorites with gourmet twists -- braised beef short ribs with mushroom risotto, shrimp and grits served with asparagus and roasted red pepper salad – characterize this deck-flanked spot on Morse Reservoir in Cicero. Breaded and fried frog legs with creole sauce piquant are a nod to the name. Chef David Kay was head chef at Astoria Waldorf in Naples, Fla., and the Conrad in Indianapolis. Indoor and outdoor bars serve beer, wine and cocktails. Motorboat up to the dock and grab a seat by a fire pit.

Comfort food at Herron Morton

Contemporary comfort food restaurant Penn & Palate is from the owners of longtime Eastside favorite Legend Classic Irvington Café. Penn & Palate opens in April in the Picadilly Building, near the corner of 16th and Pennsylvania streets. Lunch and dinner are planned. Some of the menu was showcased at a recent tasting, which included salmon with lentils, roasted cauliflower, shallots and chimichurri sauce. There's also a short rib sandwich with Havarti. The restaurant in another in a string of interesting food and drink business in the Herron Morton neighborhood. Recent openings include Tinker Coffee Company roastery and Tinker Street restaurant and wine bar. Tinker Flats, an artisan food and beverage development hub, is also in the works.

Mooyah

Choose a fresh-baked white or multigrain bun, or get a beef, turkey or black bean burger wrapped in lettuce. Further customize with one of five cheeses, applewood-smoked bacon, sliced avocado, nine other veggie toppings and 11 sauces. Mooyah french fries, Idaho or sweet potatoes, require a six-step process that takes 24 hours. Ten ice cream flavors get scooped for shakes. The chain opens its first Indiana store in July at Noblesville's Stony Creek Marketplace. Local franchisee Chris Frank plans others in Fishers and Carmel.

Johnson's BBQ Shack

What started as a food truck goes brick-and-mortar in Bargersville sometime this year. The business began with two brothers, Keith Johnson and Nathaniel "Frog" Johnson, smoking Thanksgiving turkeys for the first time. They got better and better at smoking, developed some rub recipes and, 10 years ago, launched catering, mobile and special-order operations under the Johnson's BBQ Shack umbrella. Meats are cooked over apple and local shag bark hickory woods. A Kickstarter campaign is helping fund the restaurant project.

Pure Eatery

This Fountain Square restaurant just opened a second location, this one at Fishers Town Commons in Fishers. Pure started as a sandwich shop five years ago. It grew into a full restaurant that's become famous for its hummus, made fresh daily. The Fishers location offers even more selections. Find expanded drink, appetizer and entrée menus. Some of the Fishers newbies are beef stroganoff, vegetarian pasta Florentine and citrus tuna topped with melon pico de gallo

French food at Cropichon et Bidibule

The name of this new Mass Ave French restaurant is a tongue twister. Cropichon et Bidibule is pronounced crow-pee-shawn ah bee-dee-bool. But it's OK to say CB. Everybody is doing it. The name sounds French, but it doesn't mean anything. "Cropichon" and "Bidibule" are jibberish nicknames French owners Stephane and Kathy Coueffe gave their sons. Crepes are the main course here. Choose sweet or savory fillings. Bistro classics include steak frites, French onion soup, quiche Lorraine and crème brulee.

735 Massachusetts Ave., (317) 737-2772; www.cropichonetbidibule.com

Cropichon et Bidibule's Gallete Complete is a savory buckwheat encasing ham, a soft-cooked egg and Gruyere cheese, which is similar to Swiss cheese.

Yard House

More than 100 taps and cheese-crusted tacos carnitas with chorizo, chipotle and roasted garlic landed March 25 at Circle Centre Mall. Lots of cool snacks include Korean short rib tacos, crispy Brussels sprouts and truffle fries. Burgers, salads, sandwiches, pizza, steaks and seafood round out the menu. Thirty-five flat screens are stationed among nearly 700 seats.
