IMPD: Woman shot and killed while handling gun

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police detectives are investigating after a witness told police a woman was killed Tuesday morning when she accidentally shot herself while moving a gun.

A man called 911 around 9:15 a.m. and reported a woman was killed when a gun accidentally discharged in a residence in the 8000 block of McFarland Court on the Southeastside, Lt. Richard Riddle said.

Investigators are speaking with the man, Riddle said, but so far believe the shooting death was accidental.
