Two homes for the price of one — something old and something new. That's the deal for this year's Decorators' Show House and Gardens, which opens April 30.

The annual fundraiser of St. Margaret's Hospital Guild will feature homes at 4038 and 4044 N. Pennsylvania St.

It's not the first time the Show House has really been two homes, but it's the first time one has been a newly constructed home, said Lori Goldsby, chair of this year's event, along with Kathleen House.

The new home — at 4038 N. Pennsylvania — was built last year on land that had originally been part of the property at 4044 N. Pennsylvania.

The living room at 4038 N. Pennsylvania St. is decorated in sophisticated, soothing tones, but the light fixtures make a statement.

Both have been decorated from top to bottom by local designers, Goldsby said.

"There are 40 designed spaces in the two homes, and every room is so inviting," she said.

Goldsby describes the new home as a "very adult" space. "It's very sophisticated — neutral tones with pops of color and an open concept."

The 7,000-square-foot home was built to fit into the Meridian-Kessler neighborhood from the outside, but the interior is designed in a contemporary style, she said.

Color is king in the older home, built in 1925 but remodeled in 2013.

"It's striking," Goldsby said, adding the designers worked together to blend the colors from room to room throughout the 6,000-square-foot home.

"I can see a family moving in and just loving it," she said.

Every year, 8,000 to 10,000 people tour the Decorators' Show House, now in its 54th year.

St. Margaret's Hospital Guild is a volunteer group that has supported the former Wishard Hospital, now Eskenazi Health Services, since 1907.

Best known for the annual Show House, the guild annually donates the proceeds to Eskenazi for capital improvements and programming. Past donations have supported a palliative care center, mammography van and the EMBRACE program (an integrated support program for women facing cancer), in addition to many other projects.

"We are very proud that we're able to give a significant gift every year to Eskenazi," Goldsby said.

The guild has contributed nearly $11 million to Eskenazi since 1907.

Other events planned around this year's Show House are a designer tea at 2 p.m. Monday ($45), an opening night party Wednesday ($75), a Pink & White Party featuring author Jennifer Boles on Thursday and Friday ($75 and $45) and an Indy on Tap beer bash May 7 ($40).
